History
Established in 1984, Wyoming Health Fairs began
to provide a health awareness tool to Wyoming
communities experiencing growth in the 1980’s.
During the “oil boom” years, it was difficult,
or at least, a long waiting period to be able to
see a physician. Bob Price, our current BOD
member, was manager at KTWO television at that
time and was familiar with a national
organization that helped promote health
awareness through health fair events. Wyoming
Health Fairs was born and began to team up with
communities statewide to provide low-cost blood
screening services and marketing tools to host
health fair days locally. The events featured
booths related to health and services. Also, at
the health fair, supplies and equipment were
provided by Wyoming Health Fairs. Local
volunteers provided blood draw services. The
whole blood draw process was all manual and
piles of paperwork.
As
years passed, the blood draw services were
separated from the health fair date. Typically,
a community would host a week long blood draw
event two weeks before the health fair day.
This enabled Wyoming Health Fairs to print the
blood draw results to be delivered the day of
the health fair. Participant picked up their
easy-to-read-cumulative Wyoming Health Fairs
results and visited with physicians present to
interpret results. Booth participation
continued to grow. Then Wyoming Health Fairs
was approached by the State of Wyoming to
provide the low-cost blood screening services to
state employees. To date, Wyoming Health Fairs
provides low-cost blood screening services to 18
statewide communities, all Wyoming state
employees at their locations and many
corporations.
At the turn of the century, Wyoming Health Fairs
invested in automation of the blood screening
services and process. From designing and
programming our own software programs for data
entry at a blood draw event and maintaining a
statewide database, to purchasing new laptop
computers and other equipment, Wyoming Health
Fairs has become state-of-the art in Wyoming.
Wyoming Health Fairs is a non-profit
organization providing low cost blood screening
services statewide and supports all locally
hosted health fair events. We just celebrated
our 25th anniversary! As health awareness
becomes more and more important to Wyoming
residents, Wyoming Health Fairs looks forward to
many more years. The Wyoming Health Fairs Board
of Directors is long standing with its original
members over the last 25 years.
The Executive Director Vicki Pirayesh has been
at the helm for the past 8 years, developing new
and important directions for Wyoming Health
Fairs and now Wellness Health Fairs nationwide
company. |
