- Your
health fairs tests were responsible for alerting me
with a liver problem that I would've not known that
I had if it were not for the health fair. Thank you
so much, Heather
- You
saved my little girl by having an iron level in the
chemistry panel we found out she has hemochromatosis.
Thanks Pat, from Cody, WY
- Dear
Wyoming Health Fairs,
We are writing this letter to say thank you for this
great service that you provide to Wyoming citizens.
We have gone to three health fairs now and have
enjoyed them very much.
This year was an especially great year to have
participated. Rick has always chosen to have the PSA
test done, but this year we decided to have his
entire blood work done. It proved to be a blessing
to us. We received a notice just a few days after
the blood draw and got the results from Rick's
blood. In this notice there were a couple of things
highlighted. One being his calcium and the other his
thyroid. There were some other things that were
worth looking into also. However, we do not
currently have medical insurance and therefore put
off seeking medical help. We figured how bad could
it be to have low calcium?
Thankfully almost one month after the health fair
Rick had to go to the clinic to have a physical for
his job and for his medical card. He thought to grab
his health fair results and took them with him. He
passed his routine physical except he is a little
over weight which we obviously knew. Rick asked the
Dr. to look at his blood results and it was then
that red flags went up to the Dr He suggested Rick
have another blood test to make sure the results
were accurate. Rick agreed and went straight away to
the hospital lab. The Dr. told Rick he would call
him the next day with the results.
Rick left the clinic and carried on with his usual
routine of taking his daughters to dance class and
home. He felt fine. Meanwhile the Dr. had received
results from the lab and the results were even worse
than from the health fair. The Dr. began to
frantically try to locate Rick. The Dr. called
another Dr. in Billings, Montana to talk about the
new results Both Drs agreed that Rick's life was in
jeopardy and he needed immediate medical attention.
Thank goodness for small towns. Our Dr. failed to
locate Rick by phone and went out driving around to
try and catch him. He found Rick just pulling into
our driveway with one of our little daughters. The
Dr. informed Rick that he was one sick man and
needed to go with him to the hospital right now.
Rick couldn't believe him. He felt fine. But after
some convincing Rick did ride to the hospital with
the Dr.
Upon his arrival he was immediately put in a
hospital gown, given chest xrays, and he started
receiving an i. v of calcium. Rick's calcium levels
had dropped to a 4.8 by the time all the
calculations were made to get the correct numbers.
We are told that Rick could have died at any moment
or within very few days at that rate.
After further testing and blood draws we have found
out that Rick has been diagnosed with hyper
parathyroid. It can be very serious. Who knew? Rick
is now on thyroid medicine and calcium and magnesium
which has got him back to normal.
We just wanted to send a big thank you for having
these health fairs They truly do save lives. We are
forever grateful.
Sincerely, Rick and Julie from Lovell, Wyoming
